What a wasted day...
So the inevitable top 10 of 2008 lists have started piling up.  I usually can't stand these things.  But that's mainly because I don't agree with any of the official ones.  So... I'm making my own this year!  Starting with my Top Ten 2008 albums, in no particular order:

Fleet Foxes - Fleet Foxes
Bon Iver - For Emma, Forever Ago
Lisa Hannigan - Sea Sew
Laura Marling - Alas I Cannot Swim
Johnny Flynn - A Larum
Coldplay - Viva La Vida
Ryan Adams & the Cardinals - Cardinology
Snow Patrol - A Hundred Million Suns
Ray LaMontagne - Gossip in the Grain
Timber Timbre - Medicinals

Runner up mention goes to Colm Mac Con Iomaire - The Hare's Corner, and The Kooks - Konk

If you've read even half of my entries from this year, none of these should come as a big surprise :P  But wow, 5 years ago I never would have predicted a list like this for myself.

And I already know what one of my top 2009 albums will be: Blue Lights On The Runway - !!!!!!!!!   SO FUCKING EXCITED.

In other news, I've finally put up some youtube videos from the last few concerts I've been to:

Resurrection Fern - Iron & Wine
Godless Brother in Love - Iron & Wine
Woman King > Wolves - Iron & Wine  (!!  SO BRILLIANT)
The Trapeze Swinger - Iron & Wine
Sleeping With The Light On - Dan Mangan   (how cute is he?  see: right --->)
Not Us - Dan Mangan
Not What You Think It Is - Dan Mangan
Reason to Think Aloud - Dan Mangan
Empty - Ray LaMontagne (holy shit this song live is pure sex)
Let It Be Me - Ray LaMontange
A Falling Through - Ray LaMontagne (though, it's just the audio, since security had already been around once)

Not sure where my vids from the Gentlemen Reg gig went.  I could have sworn I had one...?

And the last piece of fluff for this otherwise kind of silly post... meme from [info]loversforlilly

Post a comment and I will:

1 - Tell you why I friended you.

2 - Associate you with a song/film/tv show.

3 - Tell a random fact about you.

4 - Tell a first memory about you.

5 - Associate you with a character/pairing.

6 - Ask something I've always wanted to know about you.

7 - Tell you my favorite user pic of yours.

8 - In retort, you must spread this disease in your LJ.

I go back to work tomorrow.  Even though my head's still clogged up.  Sleeping away the day in a drug-induced haze is fun and all but... it doesn't pay the bills.  So, I'm going to put on my wooliest turtleneck, brave the cruel winter weather and go back to the office.  Might leave after lunch if I still feel like hell though.  UGH.  And I'm supposed to be going to a christmas party on Friday night too.  Not sure if that's happening while I sound like a 6 year old and look like Rudolph.  Stupid flu.

Dont have time to do the meme cause im off to buy Beedle the Bard!!

Did i get you hooked on Bon Iver?? I adore him, my favourite song deffo has to be For Emma, Forever ago. It's magic.

YAY i know 4 bands in your top 10, i still have yet to buy Lisa'a album, havent even heard anything from it. Im praying someone will buy me a giant Itunes gift token for xmas.

God you've had a terrible nasty cold havent you? Poor thing.
srahman24: Lisa Hannigan - ribbons[info]srahman24 on December 4th, 2008 04:12 pm (UTC)
Eeep! I'm hoping to get my copy today or tomorrow :D

I think so! I remember him being mentioned like four times in a row in one day on my friends-page. I had to look him up after that.

Sigh. I still don't have a copy of it either. But they've just announced it'll be released in North America in January, so it doesn't really make sense to pay the shipping costs though I kind of want the original Irish pressing, like I have with Damien's O ARGH.

It's getting better! I've regained the ability to breath through my nose!

Coldplay - Viva La Vida
Snow Patrol - A Hundred Million Suns

IAWTC ;D Particularly with Snow Patrol. Oh man. EPIC.

Hope you feel better soon *hugs* <3 :(

I know, right? The SP album just grows on me the more and more I listen to it :D

Thanks hun... I'm almost rid of this thing.

"8 - In retort, you must spread this disease in your LJ."

Can do!

And I've been posting on your blog a lot lately. Oddness.

Hope your flu gets better soon.

You have indeed. Which I hope doesn't mean that you're bored with Japan? :P

That card trick thing you posted was brilliant. I caught the clothing change, but completely missed the bigger background/tablecloth stuff.

This is me commenting for your meme lol.

Re: your top ten albums--I can't seem to get into Bon Iver. I've tried to; I downloaded this album, watched some youtube videos but I can't manage to like him. Maybe it depends on my mood. There are a lot of acts I LOVE now but didn't like initially. And I also can't get into the new Ray album, even though I should. I've only given it one not-really-good listen, so I should revisit it soon. I love him too much to write that album off right away.

2009 is becoming a good year for music, and it hasn't even begun! New Bell x1 in March, and at some point we are supposed to get a double album from Patrick Wolf (I think in February). Also, I think The Decemberists are planning on releasing a new album this year too. So, basically, all I need is some new Damien (what happened to that album he was recording on his trip to Spain? lol) and The Swell Season/Frames. Oh, and some new Sufjan would be nice lol.
srahman24: Damien - smile ♥[info]srahman24 on December 5th, 2008 05:01 am (UTC)
1 - I think it was over our mutual love of Damien, Bell X1 and The Frames. And then it just snowballed from there in terms of all the interests we have in common!

2 - Lesson Learned: Ray LaMontagne. I remember you telling me a while ago that it was one of your favorite Ray songs and it was one of those moments where things just click and I thought "yeah, she's a keeper"

3 - You are, by far, one of the most amazing writers I've ever read. I'm not normally into short stories (it's usually not enough time for me to get into the characters), but I thought your stories and characters were completely engaging and compelling. And you have such a smart, clear voice when you write. It's almost... rhythmic? That's not the right word. But it's just very nice to read. Seriously, I will make a trip down to NYC for your first book signing.

4 - First memory? Erm. I kind of already answered this with #2 :P

5 - Oh boy. I don't pay attention to pairings at all... so... let's go with Sid/Geno? Not really a pairing but anything Pens related makes me think of you

6 - Favorite 2008 memory? (eh. I suck at thinking on the spot)

7 - Your Colm icon, definitely. Or maybe the Jeff Buckley one.

Oh wow, there's certainly a lot of music to look forward to! Ah Damien. Considering Damien's lack of ability to actually release CDs... I'm guessing we'll see it in about 5 years :P But I hear he's going on tour in South/Central America... I'm hoping the US isn't too far behind.

I really need to listen to more Iron & Wine. I've only listened to a couple of songs but I'm really impressed with what I've heard.
srahman24: Jeux d'Enfants - kiss[info]srahman24 on December 5th, 2008 05:02 am (UTC)
I have a feeling I promised you an Iron&Wine mix of my favorite tracks and never delivered. First off, I apologize! Secondly, I will get that to you this weekend! I can't recommend them strongly enough :D
<o>[info]dolcianiblows on December 5th, 2008 05:34 am (UTC)
That would be lovely!

And is that Jeux d'Enfants in your icon?

I would say "meme me!" but I don't update my own journal so I can't spread the disease!
srahman24: SS - I love you[info]srahman24 on December 5th, 2008 06:16 am (UTC)
It is indeed. I love that movie. It's so charming. And Guillaume Canet! Be still my heart.

Note to self: Paris show, Boston show, Iron & Wine. This weekend, I promise.

I think we can bend the rules just this once ;)

1 - Our shared love of all things Glen and Mar. And Obama! I get very excited over music and politics, and you were just this perfect combination of the two.

2 - Go With Happiness or Your Love Makes Me Cheerful. The newer Swell Season stuff reminds me of you. I think my Swell Season phase wouldn't have lasted this long without friends like you keeping me up to date.

3 - You've never been to NYC! I always thought you lived there. I have no clue why. I will be thinking of you when I'm there in January

4 - Not an earliest memory, but... you got it into my head that Glen once sang about "making Britney Spears come" I still haven't looked up the original vid to see if I can hear it... but honestly, I don't think it matters whether he really said it or not because I'm never getting that line out of my head :P

5 - Glen/Mar. Didn't even need to give that a second thought :P

6 - How did you get into The Frames in the first place? Or was it The Swell Season that got you into The Frames?

7 - The Glen/Mar heart-finger one. Your Palin one is very cool too.
<o>[info]dolcianiblows on December 5th, 2008 06:36 am (UTC)
I love Guillaume and Marion.

And don't worry about it! Share when you have time. I'm in no rush.

Yeah, I have never been to NYC! I don't know why, it just never happened. I've always wanted to go, though. Soon.

I swear, he says, "making Britney Spears come." When he sang it I was like, "Wait, what?" and I went back to make sure I heard him right and I swear I did!

I actually got into The Frames first. As you well know, they really weren't promoted at all in the States. I first discovered Damien Rice, in maybe 2002 or 2003, and then through him found The Frames, Mic Christopher, etc. I haven't seen The Frames live yet (!!!!!!!!!) but I have been dying to since I first listened to them. Then I found out about The Swell Season and through them discovered Once! *phew*

Can I just receive this disease without spreading it? Hum?

DO ME HARD NOW!
srahman24: Damien - hat ♥[info]srahman24 on December 5th, 2008 05:22 am (UTC)
1 - SNOW PATROL!! One of the most awesome, unforgettable introductions ever. I needed a date to the show, you were on Jo's LJ page, and it was the most awesome moment of serendipity.

2 - Wonderfalls! You introduced me to that wonderful show and I will be forever grateful

3 - You're insane? :P Oh I don't know where to start! But since I wasn't very random in my last attempt at answering this question let's go with... your mom likes to push you into closets? And you like to see dinosaur skulls in turkey carcasses? You're awesome, basically.

4 - I seem to remember the words, and I quote, "Sharmin - I am officially your bitch. Period" were thrown around in our earlier days :D Also, Paul Noonan being blinded by my flash while having his arms around me and you and TOWERING over us with his sweaty Irish hotness, which made for the best picture ever.

5 - Buffy/Angel. Too easy. With Jo I actually think of BSG pilots before I think of B/A, but you're still the first person that pops into my head when those two come up in conversation (not that that happens often *shifty eyes*)

6 - Where in the world do you get all your energy from?! Seriously. You're always one of the busiest people I know and... you seem to enjoy it? Insanity.

7 - Gary: Chaos into Light. So pretty.
DestructoGirl: (Blade) HK - Bueller?[info]ba4ever on December 5th, 2008 10:57 pm (UTC)
Oh man it really is the strangestawesomestserendipitous meet up ever. It's like a tv show. I wish the rest of my life worked out like that lol.

Yay! I don't even know what happened to get me in love with - ok I know I loved it from the pilot, but it was really random when I decided to pick up the dvd.

Sharmin - I am officially your bitch. Period
I'm sure I NEVER said that :P

I don't know if you really truly got to see Joh (and I!) at our height of B/Aness...you can still get her going though.

I'm not sure that's really a question to be answered yes? I dunno...I like it..I like having things to do, I like have direction and purpose, and I think..it makes me feel alive? (Even though excessive studying has, on occasion turned my brain into a big pile of goo..). I guess...I like the method in my madness (and I'm pretty sure my mom pushing moi into the closet makes her a little more insane :P, but I'll give it to you)
Chasing the Sun: Rose[info]fluffers on December 5th, 2008 02:24 am (UTC)
Meme me!

Also, that is a solid top 10. There was so much good music this year! It seemed like every time I turned around, something awesome was being released, or I was discovering something awesome from last year that flew under the radar. I posted a top...idk, like 20 or something on the RAA, I'll have to dig it out and post it. Maybe hone it down a bit!

Kick that cold's butt! Slam vitamin c and Airborne!
srahman24: LOM - gene force[info]srahman24 on December 5th, 2008 05:49 am (UTC)
1 - Your awesome, brilliant taste in music.

2 - This one's easy: Ryan Adams. I found his blog through you! I can't thank you enough for that. Also, QI. You were one of the first people I could really get excited about that show with :D

3 - Your halloween costume last year was supposed to be Sydney Bristow before you ended up wearing something from... umm... Old Navy? I don't know why I remember that, but I honestly thought the Sydney idea was so cool. And I remember us talking about the SEX that is David Anders around then too. Also, you're a proofreading freak. I can't believe you enjoy doing that.

4 - Not one of my earliest memories, but one that makes me the happiest. You were one of the first people I knew to get really excited about Lisa's My Pirate Disco. Also, your excitement over Fleet Foxes was contagious.

5 - Sam Tyler/Gene Hunt (not in a slashy way :P) You got me into Life on Mars and it rocked my world. I can't help but think of you whenever I rewatch my DVDs for the millionth time.

6 - Why oh why do you insist on living on the West coast when your perfect gig buddy (i.e. me) is over on the East? :P

7 - Your end of the world icon, surprisingly. I don't even know what show that's from. Dr. Who, maybe?
DestructoGirl: (BTVS) this is your life on crack[info]ba4ever on December 5th, 2008 10:57 pm (UTC)

Chasing the Sun: End of the World[info]fluffers on December 7th, 2008 04:39 am (UTC)
Hahaha, I think the REAL question is: Why do YOU insist on living in Toronto??

I can't believe I like proofreading either :P
And yes, this icon's from Doctor Who. Probably the scene that made me fall for the show. And Christopher Eccleston ;D
