A movie to watch, and one to avoid like the plague
Thanks everyone for your comments and messages after my last post.  I promise I'll get back to everyone... just give me a little time to get myself sorted out.

In the meantime, I have seen a few movies lately.

W.  --> HORRIBLE PIECE OF CRAP.  Oh my god.  They haven't invented strong enough words of disdain for me to properly tell you how much I hated it and how much of a complete waste of time it was.  There was no point to the movie.  It was a biography on George Bush, which I expected (I knew it wasn't going to be a political movie)... but even in the biography part... there was nothing new added to the movie.  Nothing.  No new insights into who he is, why he does what he does, who he listens to and why... nothing new.  And I swear Josh Brolin looked older when he was playing Bush as a college student than he did at the end of the movie.

The End of the Affair --> SO GOOD.  They don't make movies like this these days.  Actually, Atonement would be comparable.  It's a romance set just around the end of WWII (though no one's a soldier, the war has a huge impact on the story) and it's beautiful.  It's the love triangle The Duchess tried to be but failed miserably at.  I understood the affair, I understood the one who allowed the affair to happen, I understood how and why everyone loved each other.  And Ralph Fiennes!  Very sexy.  If you like dramatic romances, slow paced movies with heartbreakingly beautiful scores, well developed characters, poetic cinematography that are not completely predictable from the start, this is right up your alley.  I can't recommend it enough.

And it had such amazing things to say about faith.  Not religion, but faith.  I loved it.

Maurice: I'm jealous of this stocking.
Sarah: Why?
Maurice: Because it does what I can't.  Kisses your whole leg.  And I'm jealous of this button.
Sarah: Poor, innocent button.
Maurice: It's not innocent at all.  It's with you all day.  I'm not.
Sarah: I suppose you're jealous of my shoes?
Maurice: Yes.
Sarah: Why?
Maurice: Because they'll take you away from me.

I need to update my movies of 2008 list, I think I'm at 120-ish?

Randomly, Damien Rice is going to be a guest performer for... Adele.  What?!  Ew.  I can't imagine Damien going anywhere near the girl who came up with Chasing Pavements (have I ever mentioned how much I don't like that song?)

And in a recent Lisa interview she said "...when I was in a different band" and it pretty much broke my heart.  Sigh.

P.S. If ever at Moxie's, do not order the Irish Coffee and expect a drink that resembles real Irish Coffee in any way other than the whiskey.  Blah.

I didn't know there was such an urgency for a film about George W. Bush. I have no interest in it, honestly. We're still living this nightmare.

And I also don't like the song "Chasing Pavement". It's not really bad, but it's just so dull.

Yeah, now that I've seen it, I really don't understand why it was released. There was no point to it at all.

W is that bad huh? Just as well. I really have no desire to see it. Perhaps when he's gone from the public eye (and in prison for war crimes), it might spark my interest :D

Yeah, I definitely think they needed to wait at least 5 years. Give it a little distance, and wait for the people who knew him best to actually be (relatively) free enough to offer some insight.

3 more days!

The End of the Affair is one of my favorite movies of all time... I've had it in DVD since it's release... I love Ralph Fiennes and Julianne Moore... that movie is completely breathtaking... I has a special place in my heart... when I first came to London I stayed in the area where it was based... walking through the common at night time in the rain became a pleasure. *heavy sigh*

As far as W goes... I have no wish or aspiration to ever EVER ever see a film where he is NOT mocked beyond recognition!

Also... I'm totally in blissful love, lust & adoration of the new Snow Patrol album that it's sickening... I've yet to listen to Lisa's new songs in the fear that my heart would not recover.

xx

I'm now on the lookout for a DVD. I really did love it. It's beautiful and so surprisingly poignant. I cried buckets that end of it.

When I eventually figure out a way to move to Ireland, walking the streets of Dublin in the rain with a bright umbrella will be very high on my to-do list.

Good call. I don't know what possessed me to see that movie.

I'm with you. I haven't been able to turn it off. Crack the Shutters makes me weak the knees.

Lisa's would be good for a delightful rainy spring day... but don't wait that long! The album's charming, though I maybe just a tad biased.

When will Oliver Stone realise that his movies arent that good? I dont plan on seeing W, but i feel like it was only the other day when they announced that they were making this movie.

Ralph Fiennes freaks me out, something about him that is unnerving. Maybe it was his performance in Schindlers that makes me not like him. Joseph on the other hand is yummy.

Well, for what it's worth, the movie definitely felt like it was rushed onto the market. It didn't have an ending at all. Or a message. I severely regret helping it out at the box office.

See now this works out well, you can have Joseph and I can take Ralph and we can be sisters-in-law!

He was very good in Schindler's List. Have you seen The Constant Gardener? That's the first movie that really had be swooning. And The English Patient is one of my top 5 favorite books, so I may be a little biased when it comes to him.
